CERTIFICATIONS
EQUAL PAY CERTIFICATION
In March 2020, Skinney – Þinganes hf. obtained its equal pay certification. The certification confirms
that company has established an equal pay system that meets the requirements specified in the
equal pay standard ÍST 85: 2012. The main objective of equal pay certification and the equal pay
standard is to combat the gender pay gap and to promote gender equality in the labour market.
CERTIFIED QUALITY SYSTEMS
In recent years, Skinney-Þinganes hf. has implemented a variety of certified quality systems to
ensure traceability, standard working methods and quality of the products processed by the
company, which underlines the company’s emphasis on good handling and respect for the ocean’s
natural resources.
IFS CERTIFICATION
The company’s groundfish processing factories at Krossey in Höfn and in Þorlákshöfn are IFS certified. IFS is an internationally recognized standard under the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative). The standard emphasizes food safety, quality of production and product quality. The certification demonstrates that the company’s quality management system meets the highest quality requirements for international food production.
MSC CERTIFICATION
The MSC certification confirms that the company meets the Marine Stewardship Council’s
requirements for the traceability of marine products from sustainable fish stocks. The company is a
member of Icelandic Sustainable Fisheries. The purpose of ISF is to obtain certifications of fishing
gear and fish stocks exploited around Iceland. ISF seeks fisheries certifications towards the MSC
standards, audited and assessed by certified and independent certification bodies according to the
requirements laid down in the MSC standards. The MSC certification number of Skinney-Þinganes is:
MSC-C-54351.
IFFO RS & FEMAS CERTIFICATION
The company’s fishmeal factory is IFFO RS certified, which certifies the sustainable origin of the
products. The fishmeal factory also holds a FEMAS certification which is a British certification of
responsible production methods.
