In Icelandic folklore, the appearance of the first plover (lóa) in the country means that summer has arrived. For us summer arrives with the summer youth staff. Last year, an unusually high number of youth summer workers were hired, as special circumstances call for special measures.
There is now more work available in the area, but a total of 35 employees between the ages of 16 and 20 have been hired for fish processing in Krossey. Previously, the main tasks of this group were to work in langoustine, which was then caught in significantly larger quantities than in recent years.
Today, however, there are two fresh fish lines in Krossey and this group ensures that it is possible to maintain productivity despite year-round employees taking a good summer holiday.
